To celebrate his birthday this year, Oldham resident Mike Keighery will be taking on the Three Peaks of Saddleworth on July 2 - raising funds for Mahdlo Youth Zone.
This year is especially poignant for Mike, who turns 76 on June 27, as he will also be walking in memory of his friend Stephen, who took part in the Three Peaks of Saddleworth crossing the finish line first in 2017.
Stephen suddenly passed away aged 52 in 2021.
Mike told us: “I’m a keen golfer and like to keep active, but taking on the Three Peaks will be a real challenge.
"I’m walking in a group so get lots practice, I am out most weekends walking around the villages and different routes around the countryside.
"Giving back has always been very important to me and Mahdlo is such a great charity - young people deserve opportunities to flourish and be the best they can be."
Claire Crossfield, Fundraising Manager at Mahdlo, added: "We all wish Mike a very happy birthday.
"What he doing is incredible, we cannot thank him enough.
"It’s people like Mike helping to raise money that funds the vital work we do with young people in Shaw, Chadderton, Saddleworth and all across Oldham, 52 weeks a year.”
Mike added: "Rather than a birthday gift please give a donation to help Mahdlo to continue to support the young people of Oldham.
"Every penny and pound will go a long way and make a big difference.
"If anyone would like to join me, young or old, to take on this challenge and help raise some funds for Mahdlo, please get in touch with Claire.
"The walk is approximately 15 miles with an elevation of 863m and can take between 5-7 hours depending how fit you are.
"I’m really looking forward to the day and seeing all the other walkers.”
