St John Ambulance appeals for adult support in Greater Manchester youth units

St John Ambulance is looking for new adult volunteers to work with the Cadets and Badgers in the Greater Manchester area
Organisers of St John Ambulance's youth units in Greater Manchester are appealing for adult volunteers to enrol with the first aid and health response charity and assist with the running of the district’s youth units.
2022 marks the centenary year of Cadets in St John Ambulance.
Cadets are the charity’s volunteers aged between 10 and 17, who are taught first aid and a number of other important life skills by youth leaders at a regular weekly meeting.
They work towards their Grand Prior Award, which is the culmination of a structured programme of study covering a number of different subjects, and the Cadets are given the opportunity to go on duty with adult volunteers, delivering first aid to people when they need assistance in the community and at events.
In 1987 Bertie Badger arrived on the SJA scene and the Badgers were formed.
Badgers aged 7-10 also have their own unique Super Badger Programme and are taught lifesaving first aid skills.
All Youth units need extra adult support to ensure they stay open.
No prior first aid or volunteering experience is required as you will be provided with youth leader training to kickstart your journey.
Applicants must be aged 18 or over and will be required to pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Those applying to be youth helpers will also be taught first aid so, in time, they can pass on these skills to the young volunteers and, if they wish, go on duty delivering first aid in the community and at events.
Maria Marsden, District Youth Lead for Cadets and Badgers, said: “We have various opportunities to join our youth teams around Greater Manchester as youth leaders and even unit managers.
"We’re hoping to hear from enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join us in running our teams and in return we can offer some fantastic training to set you on your path and the opportunity to work with some amazing young people.”
