Kind-hearted shoppers have been praised for supporting a Trojan food raising effort for the poor and needy.
Despite horrendous weather, a dedicated team from Saddleworth Round Table, backed by enthusiastic supporters, collected a remarkable 880kg in food donations for Oldham Foodbank from generous spirited shoppers who visited the collection point at Greenfield.
John Arthurs, vice-chair of Saddleworth Round Table, said: "In recents weeks the Foodbank has seen their stocks dramatically reduce with the number of donations decreasing. They approached us to see if we could help them with another drop off point in greenfield.
"The weather was not the nicest on Saturday but we braved it anyway! As soon as we had set up the donations came in by the bag loads and it continued for the next six hours.
"We thought the weather would deter people but we were wrong, we had a steady stream of donations throughout the day. It was a fantastic effort and we collected approximately 880kg of food."
He added: "With energy prices rising the Foodbank is more vital than ever, so if you can spare any food please look at donating to Oldham foodbank."
