Wanted: supporters for Oldham's 'Easter bunny'

A mum of two from Denshaw is hoping to repeat the success of her Easter egg appeal, which last year collected over 200 eggs for the children's ward at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Jodie Bannatyne, 35, who runs an electrical business with her husband, says she was inspired to begin the appeal last year after she took her daughter to A&E at the hospital.

"It was close to Easter last year", says Jodie.  "Whilst we were being seen, another child was admitted to a ward. My daughter is extremely inquisitive and asked if the easter bunny would know where the child was because if he didn't visit them in hospital, they would be sad.

"I told her the Easter Bunny is very clever - and will find every child, no matter where they are.  But it made me think how sad my daughter would have been had she been admitted and missed out on the Easter hunts and the eggs.

"So,I  put a plea out via our village WhatsApp group and asked if the people of Denshaw could buy extra eggs for the children a the hospital - and the result was amazing."

Hundreds of eggs were donated and delivered to the children's ward last year, and now Jodie wants to  repeat the success of last year's campaign.

"This year, we plan to deliver eggs not only to the children's ward, but also to The Christie at Oldham (based at the hospital).

"We're looking for any Easter eggs, big or small.  Any donations would be gratefullu received."

Eggs can be dropped of at Grandpa Greenes, Co-op in Delph and Scona in Greenfield.
