HISTORY will come to life for one Blue Coat School student who scored impressive A* grades in all four of her A-level exams.

Amber Nikolich (18), from Hyde, passed exams in history, English literature, philosophy of religion, and general studies with the highest grade.

She will now study history at the University of Manchester and plans to work as an archivist.

She said: “Studying has been gruelling and I’ve put myself under a lot of pressure to get the results I needed, which was either three As or two As and one B.

“Getting 4A*s was a massive shock but I’m thrilled and really proud of myself. It’s lovely to see the hard work you’ve put in pay off.”

University life awaits for 18-year-old pals Jess Hannington, from Mossley, Ellie Horsfield, from Denton, and Sophy Hitchen, from Hyde, who were also celebrating excellent results.

Jess will study English literature at Sheffield University after securing 3A* and 2As, Ellie will study theology at Durham University after getting 2A*s and 3As, and Sophy is heading to St Andrews University to study medicine following her 2A* and 3A grades.

Andrew Lee (18), from Springhead, plans to become a banker after passing his A-levels with one A*, 3 As and a C.

Andrew, who will study an economics degree at the University of York, said: “I”m very happy with my results.”

Deputy head teacher Brian Devenport said the school was absolutely delighted by the students’ achievement.

He said: “The average points score of 440.5 is a significant increase on last year’s record of 382 which puts Blue Coat towards the top of national league tables on this measure.

“10 students achieved 4 A*/A grades or better with 54 per cent of students achieving the A*-B standard, again new records for the school.

“We are particularly delighted for all our students, several who have overcome difficult circumstances in order to reach their targets.

“It is a testimony to the students’ endeavour, their families’ support and the commitment of the staff that Blue Coat students have again achieved at the highest levels.”
