A scene from last year's Summer Festival
Hundreds of Oldham’s best and brightest young and community musicians are set to get the town centre rocking at this year’s Summer Festival.
Oldham Music Centre’s Summer Festival on July 7 will see musicians perform live at different stages throughout the town centre from 10am to 7pm.
The Summer Festival, which has been held at Newman RC College in previous years, is an exciting way of showcasing the talents of all Oldham Music Centre groups in a jam-packed family day out.
From brass bands to guitars, orchestras to rock bands and choirs to wind bands, there will be something for all musical tastes on display with stages at Parliament Square, Firth Street, the Old Town Hall’s Egyptian Room and the Oldham Lyceum building.
Councillor Paul Jacques, Cabinet Member for Education and Culture, said: “This is such a fantastic event for Oldham.
"The borough is nationally renowned for its talented musicians and this is an excellent way of showcasing them.
“We want this to be an event for everyone and we’re encouraging you all to come for a great day of family fun and take advantage of our many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
“There are so many positives to playing an instrument or creating music.
"It’s a fantastic way of relieving stress, improving coordination, socialising and more than anything it’s a lot of fun.
“If you’re interested in learning to play a musical instrument or joining a group, I urge you to come along to the Summer Festival to learn about the wide range of Oldham Music Centres on offer.”
