Get back to fitness, starting at HealthFest 2018

HealthFest is coming to Alexandra Park on Sunday, August 12
Once famous as a centre of excellence for the world’s cotton and engineering industries, Oldham is now becoming famous for being a centre of excellence in being unhealthy thanks to the diabetes, obesity, stroke and heart attack numbers being among the highest in the country.
HealthFest is coming to Alexandra Park on Sunday, August 12, where the aim is to try and redress this, by bringing together as many members of the public as possible with as wide a range as organisers can get of leading healthy lifestyle organisations, companies and individuals.
The day will include at the very least healthy food, exercise (including chair-based), play and relaxation – all delivered in a fun and enjoyable non-clinical environment.
One of the biggest drawbacks in Oldham to healthier living is that, while lots of organisations, companies, caterers, groups, clubs and individuals are doing great things, they often work in isolation.
HealthFest aims to be a celebration and showcase for what’s out there and what might be being developed.
It will make use of the undoubted skills, talents, enthusiasm and abilities that exist in a wide range of people in Oldham and the surrounding area – many of whom might not be seen as 'healthcare providers' in the strict sense.
There will be opportunities for all sectors of society to improve their health (physical, mental, social and economic) irrespective of their age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, health needs and physical or mental capability.
Young or old, all can benefit themselves, their relatives, friends and employers, plus the area as a whole.
