A free radiotherapy talk and tour will take place at The Christie Oldham
The Northern Care Alliance will be hosting a free radiotherapy talk and tour at The Christie Oldham, on Saturday, June 9 at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
The Christie at Oldham was the first in a unique network of Christie radiotherapy centres, where patients can access first class radiotherapy treatment from Christie experts, closer to home.
Local patients from Oldham,. Bury, Middleton, North Manchester, Rochdale, Tameside and further afield are treated at this centre for a large range of cancers.
However, rarer and more complex cancers are still treated at the main Christie site in Withington, South Manchester.
The event will give delegates the opportunity to find out more about the services provided at The Christie Oldham and will cover the medical provision, how treatment is planned and delivered, complementary and support services available on site, and an opportunity to go behind the scenes to view the equipment and technology close up.
Open since March 2010, the centre has expanded its services enormously, increasing access for local patients and providing increased additional support.
The centre treats between 90-100 patients a day.
The Christie at Oldham is located on The Royal Oldham Hospital site.
The Royal Oldham is one of five hospitals managed by The Northern Care Alliance (NCA); the others are Salford Royal, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Rochdale Infirmary and North Manchester General.
The NCA brings together two Trusts, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
Julie Davies, lead radiographer said: “Community engagement is of great importance to the centre informing the public of our role and the work of The Christie is paramount.
"The team at The Christie continually strive to improve service and quality of care for our patients so we welcome the opportunity to invite people through our doors.”
The talk will be held on Saturday, June 9, between 10am – 12noon at The Christie Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital.
All are welcome to attend; to book your place contact Angela Greenwood on 01706 517302 or email: membership@pat.nhs.uk.
The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides.
So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become Trust members.
