Celebrating 10 wonderful years of Link4Pink

The Royal Oldham Hospital’s Link4Pink breast cancer charity is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and it marked the occasion with a thank you event for its dedicated volunteers to thank them for their tireless work over the past decade, raising vital funds for the charity.

The charity also said a fond farewell to its dedicated Chairperson, Helen Haigh, who is stepping down from her role. Helen received a very special thank you for her hard work and dedication to the charity.

The Link4Pink Appeal was created in 2008 to benefit patients attending the Victoria Breast Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The first project was to raise money to build a £160,000 conservatory extension to the unit.

After three years of successful fundraising by Link4Pink, with the support of the local community, the hospital opened a new facility in May, 2011.

The Link4Pink appeal continues to raise much needed funds to support the work of the Victoria Breast Unit, enhancing the care and facilities the unit is able to provide for breast cancer patients.

The charity is now looking to the next 10 years with a new recruitment drive for volunteers.

It will be hosting an information event on January 3 at 5pm in the Victoria Unit for anyone who may be interested in getting involved with fundraising activities for the unit.

Shelley Owen, Charity Coordinator at the Northern Care Alliance Group, said: “We’ve had a fantastic 10 years of fundraising for the Victoria Unit, but we are very much looking to the future with some exciting fundraising projects that will help us to raise awareness of the charity and support the breast cancer patients of the future.

“We have a brilliant and enthusiastic team of volunteers who work really hard to organise exciting events.

"We’ll be holding a very informal event for would-be volunteers right at the start of the New Year on January 3, so there’s never been a better time to join us, get involved, have fun and help us make the Victoria Unit even better for patients.”

Link4Pink continues to receive great support from members of the public and the appeal has recently purchased various pieces of equipment for the unit, including a mammography biopsy mobile chair, and it recently funded the renovation of the unit’s garden, providing an inviting, peaceful outdoor space where patients can sit and chat.
