Free diabetes screening available tomorrow

More than a third (38%) of Greater Manchester’s residents, undiagnosed with type 2 diabetes, report at least one symptom of the condition, such as urinating more frequently (19%), being tired more than usual (21%), and slow healing of wounds (13%), according to a new survey by LloydsPharmacy.

While around one in 20 (5.8%) Mancunians are already diagnosed with the condition, there are concerns that many more could be undiagnosed or at risk.

Around a quarter of adults around the city (26%) remain untested and two-thirds (66%) of those surveyed were not aware that it is extremely easy to get checked.

That is why LloydsPharmacy is offering free screenings and expert advice at the Arndale shopping centre tomorrow (Wednesday).

The event aims to help identify some of the estimated 1.1 million people living in the UK with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes and those at risk, as well as raise awareness of the condition and provide support and advice to help people reduce their risk.

It is estimated that there are currently 3.5 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and this is projected to rise to 5 million by 2025.

This is the equivalent to three people diagnosed every ten minutes.

The next LloydsPharmacy roadshow is being hosted at the Arndale shopping centre tomorrow, between 9am – 5pm.

If Manchester residents are unable to attend the roadshow, they should visit their local Lloyds Pharmacy stores and ask for a free type 2 diabetes screening.
