The Saddleworth Women's Morris and Clog side weaved their way through Delph, Dobcross and Uppermill
The dedicated members of Saddleworth’s first women’s morris dancing side celebrated their first birthday in style… with a festive dance across the community.
Despite bitterly cold weather, 25 members of Saddleworth Women's Morris and Clog, including their band, weaved their way through Delph, Dobcross and Uppermill, delighting audiences with a colourful display of their dancing talents.
They began at Albion Farm, Delph before moving on to Stoneswood care home, The Swan Inn, Dobcross, and ending at The Cross Keys in Uppermill.
Lucy Marstin, the side’s squire and forewoman, said: "It was a wonderful day and we are very appreciative of the turnout.”
She recalled: "When we first launched, I expected just a few people turn up, but enough turned up at the first practice for three sides.
"And we’ve gone from strength to strength since.
"Now we are busy learning new dances for the start of the season at Easter.
“But our doors are always open for new dancers,” she added.
The side have their own Facebook page and meet between 8pm and 10pm on Wednesdays at Denshaw Village Hall.
