Christmas angels flood Saddleworth’s villages

Liz Rook and Margaret Hallam have been busy over the year encouraging their team of dedicated knitters to produce 200 lovely keepsakes

Choirs of tiny, hand-crafted Christmas angels are lighting up the lives of Saddleworth villagers in time for Yuletide. 

Liz Rook from St Chad's Parish Church and Margaret Hallam from Uppermill Methodist Church have been busy over the year encouraging their team of dedicated knitters to produce 200 lovely keepsakes.

They were knitted by members of Thursday Friends at Uppermill church and the ladies of St Chad's church.

And tots from their joint playgroup, Tuesday Tots, went home with a Christmas Angel each for their Christmas tree.

The angels, in various colours, will be left in different places in and around Uppermill this week for people to find and take home with all our wishes for many Christmas blessings to all friends in the community.

They went home with a cheering message: “happy hunting.”

Meanwhile, Delph Christmas Angels are about to fly around the parish, with a heartening Christmas message from Delph Churches and villagers being urged to watch for their appearance and answer the appeal to take one home for Christmas. 

Members of the congregations of St Thomas’s and the Methodist churches, the Piecemakers, Holland Close and Delph Community have all contributed to making the 2024 choir of angels.

They are begun distributed by Delph’s Chief Elf Organiser Sue Lund, and Delph Elf Angels - Julie Murgatroyd, Maryon Wearing and Kath Kenyon.

And not forgetting the one and only Chief Elf Luther and his four legged friends - Frankie and co.
