E-ACT The Oldham Academy North (TOAN) hosted its Raising Aspirations careers fair, bringing together a wide range of local employers, colleges, apprenticeship providers and community organisations to help students explore potential careers and further education options.
The event allowed students to meet representatives from local employers, including Barlows EV, Greater Manchester Police, and Dream Big Sports to gain insight into different career paths.
Local colleges and higher education institutions, such as Oldham College, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Ashton Sixth Form, also attended and shared their knowledge on the range of academic and vocational routes available to students after completing their GCSEs.
Experts were on hand to discuss apprenticeships, and students were even able to explore career options within the sports industry thanks to Manchester United being in attendance.
Students and parents also had the chance to meet TOAN’s year 10 and 11 pastoral staff and senior leadership team to discuss academic progress and future goals.
External support services such as Positive Steps and Early Help were also available to provide additional resources and guidance for students and families.
Careers Lead at TOAN, Scott Boardman, said: “Our Raising Aspirations event is all about showing our students the many paths open to them.
"By bringing in a range of organisations, we are helping them to think ahead and make informed choices for their futures.
"TOAN students have incredibly bright futures ahead and Raising Aspirations plays an important role in encouraging ambitions and opening doors.”
Alex Machell, Director of Key Stage 4 at TOAN, added: “It was great to see our young people so enthusiastic about what the future might hold.
"These sorts of events are crucial in raising ambitions and we’re very grateful to all the organisations who gave up their time to support us.”
