A group of determined teenagers from the Upturn programme is preparing to embark on a four-mile hike to express their gratitude to the charity that has profoundly transformed their lives.
These inspiring young individuals, who have greatly benefited from Upturn's unwavering support, will be walking alongside McDonald's management and crew members from Middleton and Oldham, as well as students from Redwood and Springboard Project and Hopwood Hall and representatives from the BBC to raise funds for Children in Need.
Their aim is to extend a helping hand to others experiencing disadvantage.
The event will see participants walking from McDonald’s in Middleton to McDonald’s in Oldham, dressed in bright yellow spots to honour the fast-food giant for providing many with their first taste of the workplace.
This vibrant display of solidarity is a testament to the impact of Upturn's programme, which has helped 167 of the most disadvantaged people in the Northwest find employment or complete their education.
Upturn was awarded a grant by the BBC's flagship campaign to enable young people to gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
And that’s happened thanks to the support of Oldham’s and Rochdale business community - particularly key partner, McDonalds.
Gail Lavery, Head Talent Coach at Upturn, said: "These opportunities are amazing, giving young people the chance to learn and develop new skills, confidence, and work ethics to help them prosper and shine."
Laura is a typical example of those who have flourished through Upturn’s Children in Need collaboration with McDonald’s.
Initially lacking confidence and direction, she completed a four-week training and employability course, impressing her supervisors so much that she was offered a full-time position.
She now works at the Middleton restaurant, where the walk will commence at 10am this morning (Friday), arriving in Oldham just in time for lunch at 12:30pm.
"Children in Need has raised nearly £40 million for good causes over the years," noted Upturn co-founder, Maria Williams.
"This is fantastic news for communities that embrace it so wholeheartedly and for the charities and social enterprises that do so much for our young people.
"But it's crucial to remember the individuals behind the fundraising and the figures - the children and young people whose aspirations and opportunities have been elevated, and the businesspeople who support them.
"So, if you see our team near you today, please do the right thing and contribute to Children in Need!"
