Staff and pupils at Saint Joseph’s RC Junior, Infant and Nursery School enjoyed an engaging and educational visit from the local fire service
Children at Saint Joseph’s RC Junior, Infant and Nursery School received an engaging and educational visit from the local fire service, when they learned crucial fire safety lessons just in time for Bonfire Night celebrations.
The visit, organised by Deputy Head Mr Hill, saw firefighters from Green Watch at Oldham Fire Station deliver a comprehensive fire safety presentation to the school's Year 4 class.
Children were captivated as the firefighters covered essential topics such as fireworks safety, the proper use of matches, the importance of smoke alarms, the stop-drop-roll technique and the dangers of leaving candles unattended.
"We're so grateful to the Oldham Fire Service for taking the time to speak with our children," said Mr Hill.
"With Bonfire Night just around the corner, this was the perfect opportunity to ensure our children have the knowledge and skills to stay safe during the celebrations."
In addition to the informative talk, the Year 4 class was also treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour of the fire engine.
Children were able to explore the vehicle, try on firefighter helmets, sound the siren and even spray the fire hose, much to their delight.
"The children were absolutely thrilled to get up close and personal with the fire engine," added Saint Joseph’s Head Teacher, Mr Needle.
"It was a wonderful chance for them to see the important work our local firefighters do and to appreciate the equipment they use to keep our community safe."
The fun and learning didn't stop there, however.
Eager to share the experience, the school also arranged for the infant classes to take turns visiting the fire engine during the morning.
Squeals of excitement could be heard throughout the school as the younger children clambered aboard the impressive vehicle.
"Seeing the joy on the infants' faces as they explored the fire engine was truly heart-warming," said Mr. Needle.
"This visit has been a highlight for our entire school community and we're so grateful to the firefighters for making it possible."
The fire safety talk and engine tour are just the latest in a series of engaging events organised by the Saint Joseph’s team.
"At Saint Joseph’s, we're always looking for new and innovative ways to enhance our children's learning experiences," added Mr Needle.
"By partnering with organisations like the fire service, we're able to provide our children with unique opportunities that complement the curriculum and inspire a lifelong love of learning."
