Greater Manchester Police saluted the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team after a dramatic incident in Saddleworth.
Initially, GMP were made aware of a stranded hiker in the Saddleworth area.
The incident began late on Tuesday afternoon when GMP received a distress call from a walker who had strayed off a main path in the Saddleworth area.
With darkness falling, they found themselves lost and unable to navigate safely.
Given the potential difficulties in reaching them quickly in rugged, remote terrain, GMP requested the assistance of the Oldham team for their expertise.
Oldham Mountain Rescue rapidly mobilised their team, equipped with specialist navigation tools and rescue gear, and joined police officers at the staging area.
Together, they traced the walker’s last known location using phone signals and local knowledge of the area.
As darkness fell, OMR’s advanced equipment and highly skilled personnel were crucial in helping police reach the stranded individual safely.
After a few hours of coordinated searching, the teams successfully located the walker.
Though tired and understandably shaken, they were in good condition and very thankful for the prompt response.
Following a brief medical assessment from the OMR team, the walker was escorted safely back down the trail and reunited with family members.
Sgt Connor Brook, from GMP's Saddleworth and Lees team, said: "Our neighbourhood policing team would like to extend our sincere thanks to Oldham Mountain Rescue for their invaluable assistance, expertise, and swift response.
"This rescue highlights the importance of community partnerships and the vital role that organisations like OMR play in keeping everyone safe as they enjoy our beautiful, but sometimes challenging, landscapes.
"We’d also like to remind everyone planning to walk or explore the hills to take appropriate precautions, check the weather forecast, and always let someone know your intended route.
"Together, we can make sure everyone returns home safely.
"Thank you once again to Oldham Mountain Rescue and our dedicated team for a job well done!"
