Scaling the heights - students scale the abseiling tower amongst many other activities
As students in Year 7 began life at the Radclyffe School in Chadderton, what better way to get to know each other and the staff who will guide them through the next five years than an exciting trip into Cheshire!
A new destination for the visit, Linnet Clough Scout camp in Stockport, offered an inspiring day out for the whole year group.
The weather was kind and this allowed everyone to make the most of the great facilities.
Small groups of students have a staff mentor throughout their time at the Radclyffe School, their Personal Learning Guide.
In their PLG teams, students got stuck into everything from rock climbing to axe throwing, archery to bushcraft.
Every group was able to enjoy a selection of activities, keeping the day full and busy.
Lots of the young people were trying activities for the first time ever, building skills and learning new talents.
Working as part of a team helped to build friendships amongst the students and relationships with members of staff.
The trip was the third time the school has taken a full year group of new students out and the young people responded so well to the opportunity.
Assistant Headteacher Joanne Robinson, who co-ordinated the visit, said: “The trip takes students out of Oldham but also out of their comfort zone.
"It proved once again a great opportunity for our new students to get to know each other and the teaching and support staff who will be caring for them throughout their time at the Radclyffe School.”
The year group has settled well into their new school.
Year Manager for Year 7, Marie Clegg, added: “We have had a very encouraging first half term for the students, with very positive behaviour across the group.”
