Inspirational teacher Steve shortlisted for prestigious Educate Award

Date published: 12 October 2023

Inspirational Deputy Head Steve Hill from St Joseph’s Primary School in Shaw has been shortlisted for the Teacher of the Year prize at the prestigious Educate Awards.

With a total of 20 categories, the Educate Awards shortlist recognises inspiring teachers, dedicated support staff, and strategic leadership teams.

The awards, in partnership with ASL and Ricoh, are the largest education awards in the region and will return to the iconic Liverpool Cathedral on Friday, November 17.

It's been a hectic few months for fundraiser and adventurer extraordinaire Steve.

During the school summer holidays he ran seven marathons across Costa Rica (running from the Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast) through jungles - encountering snakes, spiders, ants and even crocodiles!!

He then flew to Tajikistan in the Eastern Hemisphere and ran seven more marathons across the country from the Afghanistan border to the China border along the Silk Road through the Bartang Valley in temperatures above 40 degrees - "it was brutal!" said Steve.

Upon his return from his epic Summer Challenge he was then welcomed to a special Mayoral Reception at the Mayor's Parlour in Oldham, and Steve's exciting news doesn't stop there.

He told the Chronicle: "I have a dream of getting a copy of my Book - ‘What’s Next Sir?’ - into every school in the country - starting with our home town of Oldham through people sponsoring and donating a book to a school of their choice.

"I’m now thrilled to announce that we have managed to get a copy of my book into every school in Oldham.

"A huge thankyou to everyone who has helped inspire our next generation by sponsoring and donating a book to one of our schools - it means a lot.

"Now - let’s get a copy into every school in Greater Manchester and beyond!"
