Waterhead Academy has been shortlisted for prestigious Tes Schools Awards 2023 in the Community Engagement Initiative of the year category.
The Tes Schools Awards, now in its 15th year, recognises teachers and schools from UK state and independents, including early years settings, primary and secondary.
The panel of awards judges include school leaders, experts and education researchers.
The objectivity, professionalism and high standards of the Tes Schools Awards judges and the judging process has helped establish them as a well-respected achievement for any school chosen as a finalist or winner.
Mr Neil Wilson, Assistant Principal for Personal Development at Waterhead Academy, said: "Our Academy places community engagement at the centre of our ethos and we are delighted to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award.
"Through our extensive Personal Development programme, students are provided with a range of opportunities to become active citizens and make positive contributions to their local and wider communities.
"I am so proud that our students and staff have been recognised for their hard work and our nomination is testament to the range of positive initiatives that take place at Waterhead Academy."
Mr James Wilson, Waterhead Academy Principal, added: "We are really pleased to be recognised once again for our work in this area.
"We view this aspect of our education offer as a really important part in developing our students so they are ready to play an active role within the community now and in the future."
Neil Wilson has engaged a range of external partners from our local and wider community who have worked alongside and provided an exciting and engaging range of activities that have benefitted both Waterhead Academy students as well as the local community.
Tes editor and chief judge of the Tes Schools Awards, Jon Severs, said: “With these awards we honour the education community, whom we have served for over 112 years.
"This year has seen some incredibly high quality entries.
"So every teacher and school who has been named in this shortlist should be very proud – it’s a fantastic achievement.
“We are looking forward to showcasing, as we do every year, just how vital our education professionals are to every facet of this country.
"Teachers, leaders and support staff all play such an important role in schools: this is our chance to say thank you for all that they do.”
The Tes Schools Awards winners will be announced on Friday, June 23 at a gala ceremony at London’s Grosvenor Park Hotel.
