Local businessman, fundraiser and co-owner of Latics, Frank Rothwell, paid a visit to Oldham Sixth Form College.
He was accompanied by Stephen Lowe, former OSFC Chair of Governors and Project Manager of the Stoller Charitable Trust.
The visit included a tour of the college facilities and the opportunity to talk to staff and students about their day to day learning and lives.
During the tour of the campus, Frank spoke to students about their studies, gaining an insight into the variety of pathways and qualifications on offer at OSFC.
He praised the focus of the students hard at work, preparing for upcoming exams and the excellence of the facilities available to learners across college.
Frank was also impressed with the achievements of alumni after seeing various displays showcasing their progression and grades whilst walking around various departments.
Whilst visiting the Sports Centre, he was able to witness the College's partnership work in full force as Year 12 Sport students delivered coaching sessions for local primary school pupils from Higher Failsworth.
Frank said: “I was really impressed, the college looks brand new and every student I saw and spoke to was really taking their studies seriously and enjoying their time at the college.
"I was impressed that there were options to add extra elements, like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and first aid, to their education.
"I believe that these extra qualifications set you up for life after sixth form and help put you at the top of the pile in job applications, because you have demonstrated you are prepared to go the extra mile.
"My visit absolutely exceeded my expectations.”
Associate Principal, Suzannah Reeves, said of the visit: “Our focus on transforming lives in our community is central to everything we do and we greatly welcomed the opportunity to showcase this to Frank, who has achieved so much within his own life.
"Ambition and opportunity are what drive us to provide the very best education we can for our students.
“As a college, we take great pride in having a broad and inclusive curriculum that is supportive and supplemented by a whole host of extra opportunities, available to all students.
"All of our students are high achieving as they are motivated and strive to be the best they can be.”
