Coppice Primary Academy run an Eco Team of 16 children, made up of Key Stage 2 children
'Proud' Coppice Primary Academy school students are celebrating being awarded 'Green Flag Status' with Eco Schools.
School staff and pupils had started working towards securing the prestigious award in 2021, but they had to put all their work on hold because of the Covid pandemic.
Natasha Teasdale-Piearce, Eco Lead at the school, said: "We run an Eco Team of 16 children, made up of Key Stage 2 children.
"We hold Eco meetings at least twice a half term, where we discuss any issues/concerns and the children can share ideas/initiatives that they have.
"The children carried out an 'environmental review' and then we created an action plan with specific targets on.
"We also took part in the following national initiatives: Big Battery Hunt, Switch Off Fortnight, Big British Spring Clean and Waste Week.
"We also created a new 'healthy snack' policy, where children can only bring in fruit and vegetables and it cannot contain a wrapper - to reduce plastic waste and littering."
Mrs Nuttall is the Forest School lead, and she has been working with the children to repurpose items, plant flowers/plants, and learn about sustainability and other environmental issues.
Mrs Teasdale-Piearce added: "It has been a lot of work, but the children have loved working towards the Green Flag and it is something that we are very proud of as a school and a community."
