The Conservative Group on Oldham Council have appointed a new Finance spokesman who pledges to scrutinise the Labour Administration.
Councillor Max Woodvine has been appointed as the Shadow Cabinet Member for Finance and Low Carbon - he will be shadowing the Labour Deputy Leader, Cllr Abdul Jabbar.
As Shadow Cabinet Member he will scrutinise Labour’s ‘excessive’ spending and proposed increases in taxation.
Cllr Woodvine will produce and present the Conservatives’ alternative at the annual Budget Meeting.
He will also formulate Conservative financial plans for the Borough of Oldham.
An important policy of the Conservative Group is the continued opposition to the Clean Air Zone.
Cllr Woodvine said: “As Conservatives our preference and priority is to put more money in the pockets of the people of Oldham and Saddleworth.
"This important principle will be central to our fiscal policies."
He continued: “We cannot foresee the future, however, we will hold the Labour Administration to account for their excessive and reckless spending.
"By blindly increasing tax they are increasing the cost of living in the Borough and this must be avoided.”
