Listen to hundreds of talented young and community musicians as they rock the town centre with the return of the popular Oldham Music Centre Summer Festival this weekend.
The free festival takes place on Saturday (July 9), 11am – 6.45pm in Parliament Square.
There will be more than 50 performances throughout the day across two stages and at the Lyceum – plus a Festival Market (10am – 4pm) selling locally sourced goods from some of Oldham’s youngest entrepreneurs.
Visitors can enjoy a feast of tunes from Oldham Music Centre bands, brass bands, guitarists, orchestras, rock bands and choirs, to name just a few.
The performers range from the centre’s youngest musicians who are only seven or eight years old, to some of the more experienced members of the community ensembles.
Those looking for a unique shopping experience will be able to shop at the pop-up market, featuring local traders aged 25 and under.
The market will sell a diverse range of products including. Handmade satin flowers, paintings, clay figures, pin badges and Eco travel packages.
Cllr Elaine Taylor, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “This is the first time since 2019 the Music Centre has been able to hold the festival in person and I’m looking forward to seeing Oldham’s talented musicians put on a show for the public.
“Oldham is a unique, diverse borough and I’m proud to have so many brilliant young musicians within the Music Service.
“It will be a brilliant day out for the whole family, and with our pop-up youth market alongside the festival, there certainly will be something for everyone to enjoy.
"So come along, enjoy the music and do a spot of shopping with our young entrepreneurs.”
