A fabled scarecrow trail in a Saddleworth village has taken a Royal and ingenious twist this year.

In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Delph Scarecrow Trail runs until June 12, and features 25 scarecrows in shops, offices and household windows across the village.

This year, the trail features Royal scarecrow characters from history, literature and topical culture.

Organised  by the Delph Community Association, the trail has been an annual event since 2007 and, with the exception of 2020, has raised thousands of pounds for local village projects included the maintenance of the famed Chapel Gardens.

However, this year all proceeds are dedicated  to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.

Details of the trail are featured in a map in a guide showing the location of each scarecrow and a clue to help with identification.

The guides, costing £3 each, can be obtained from Delph Post Office, the Co-op, Delph Crafts, the Old Bell Inn Restaurant, the Library and Millgate Hair Studios.

The trail begins at Delph Library, heads to the village cross roads passing the Old Bell Inn Restaurant, Bakestones and continuing to Hillend, Delph Lane, Dale Lane before returning to the village locations via the White Lion and Clifton Holmes.

And there are prizes awarded from a draw of the completed answer sheets which should be returned to Delph Post Office by next Monday, June 13.

Vouchers towards meals have been donated by village venues the Bank, Crumbles, the Fish and Chip shop, the Old Bell Restaurant and Cavallo Coffee Box at Castleshaw.

Millgate Hair Studios have donated a beauty products voucher.
