Keep on dancing!

The iconic Saddleworth Morris Men are promising a colourful display when they dance tomorrow (Saturday) with supporting visiting sides.

The dancers will assemble at the Commie - formerly the Commercial - in Uppermill at 12noon, then march to dance spots at the Hare and Hounds car park, Uppermill Park, and Saddleworth Museum where they will unfurl their commemorative banner.

Later, they will reassemble and dance at the Cross Keys Inn and complete their performances with a closing session at the Church Inn in Uppermill.

The famous Rushcart will not be used this year because of covid which meant although they will be having some visiting sides, there would not be enough to trundle it round the route.

Several teams from across the country will join the local side, including Earlsdon, Brighton, White Hart and Jockey.

David Biggs, Squire of Saddleworth Morris Men, said: "We are bitterly disappointed not to be able to put on the Rushcart again this year, but at least we can still get out and perform, unlike in 2020.

"We can't wait to dance out in full kit for the first time in two years."

Saddleworth Morris Men's informal Uppermill tour (all timings are estimates):

12 noon - The Commie (was Commercial)

1.15pm - Saddleworth Museum

2pm - Hare & Hounds and Uppermill Park

3.30pm - Cross Keys

4.30pm - Church Inn

5pm/5.30pm - Dancing ends.
