Councillor welcomes police reaction to criminal behaviour in Alexandra Park

Liberal Democrat Councillor Dave Murphy has welcomed the police reaction to his concerns over ongoing criminal behaviour in Alexandra Park.

The police have launched a dedicated response called Operation Fasica, with high visibility patrols in the area. 

There's also a dedicated resource at the site. 

Councillor Murphy said: “I am glad that the police have stepped up and taken my concerns about criminal behaviour seriously, and not just issued a knee-jerk rebuttal. 

“Alexandra Park is a wonderful resource for our community, and I want to make sure that everyone in Oldham is able to use it safely, and without worrying about this kind of behaviour. 

“I want to thank the police teams for their commitment to making our parks safer, friendlier, and more accessible for everyone.”

One arrest has already been made in relation to a recent incident, with enquiries still ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the police using their online reporting tool (https://www.gmp.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/), or they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. 

Fellow Liberal Democrat Councillor Sam Al-Hamdani added his thanks to the police team and Councillor Murphy as a regular user of the park.

Sam said: “Especially during lockdown, the park has been a wonderful resource to have on our doorstep.

"I have a young daughter, and being able to take her somewhere where she can have fun, and – restrictions permitting – play with so many other children, has been such a positive.

“Alexandra Park should be a place for our community to come together, and so often it is.

"I’m incredibly grateful to Councillor Murphy and the Police for stepping in to help ensure it can continue to be so.”
