Shock as video appears to show women leaving slices of bacon on Oldham Mosque

Date published: 06 November 2018

A video has appeared on social media reportedly showing two women leaving slices of bacon on the door of an Oldham mosque while they laugh hysterically.

The footage, which has been viewed thousands of times already, show the pair leaving a house holding some alcohol before they are seen walking along a street.

They then walk to the Madina Mosque and Islamic Centre on Stansfield Street in Oldham and leave slices of bacon in a doorway.

All this takes place while worshippers can be heard praying inside the building.

The pair then appear to put the bacon on the door handles of an entrance before running away.

A spokesman for the Mosque has said they are aware of the video and have reported it to Greater Manchester Police.

The force has been contacted for comment and we are awaiting their reply.

Eating pork is forbidden in Islam and leaving bacon outside Mosques is considered a hate crime.

Speaking after seeing the footage, General Secretary of Madina Mosque in Oldham, Dara Miah, said: “I saw the video yesterday and I’m going to report it to the police.

“It’s not needed. We are trying to work together to fight this sort of crime.

"For two young women to do this and film it themselves, then post it somewhere online is shocking really.”

In the video the pair can be seen outside the mosque with one of the women dangling what appear to be two slices of bacon in front of the camera before placing them on the mosque door before running away laughing.

A bystander can be seen challenging the women for drinking alcohol outside the Mosque. They apologise and claim they’re “waiting for somebody”.

It’s also been reported the pair poured alcohol through the letter box of the Mosque.
