Griffiths lines up Moorside encore

BOWLS: REIGNING champion Darren Griffiths, his Tonge and Nimble Nook team-mate Colin Lane, and Springbank’s Ged Smedley have qualified for the finals of the Moorside Classic.
Griffiths booked his place in the last 16 with a 21-16 defeat of Ray Broadfield.

Griffiths reached the semi-finals of the Smithy Manor Classic in St Helens, but lost 21-17 to former Oldhamer Graeme Wilson.
Wilson went on to land the £1,000 top prize with a 21-18 verdict over Matty Gilmore (Merseyside).
TROPHY TIME FOR NOOK
BOWLS: NIMBLE Nook ‘B” have won the Chadderton and District Bowling League’s Swallow Cup (see picture).
They defeated Royton Cricket ‘A’ by 26 chalks in the final held at North Chadderton Social and Bowling Club.
Nook booked their place in the final with a 20-chalks victory over Church Inn ‘B’, while Royton went through thanks to a 17-points verdict against Crompton.
A COMPETITION which raised over £400 for charity is under threat due to lack of entrants.
The Dr Kershaws women’s pairs, scheduled for Sunday, September 5, is some way short of the 32 it needs to go ahead.
It costs only £4 to enter and a competition spokesman said: “Please get your entries in, ladies.
“We don’t want to cancel a handicap which last year raised over £400 for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice”.
