Super Snyman is too hot to handle

MASTER-BLASTER Gerrie Snyman gave a breathtaking display of batting as Moorside lifted the Tom Hardman Twenty20 Cup.

The Namibian professional was the star of the show on finals' day of the JW Lees Brewery Pennine Cricket League competition at Norden's Woodhouse Lane ground.

Snyman first struck an unbeaten 91 off 49 balls as Moorside beat Rochdale by seven wickets, before following up with an equally belligerent 81 not out from 47 deliveries in the eight-wicket hammering of Littleborough.

The 36-year-old, who played in the 2003 World Cup, boasts expert form in the short version of the game, having bludgeoned Heyside to victory, ironically against Moorside, in the Saddleworth League final in 2013.

The only Championship club to reach this season's T20 finals' day, Moorside revelled at being tagged as the underdogs.

They chased down Wood Cup winners Rochdale's total of 184, with Imran Khan's 30 not out off 13 balls providing excellent support to Synman's big-hitting antics.

Moorside skipper Rick Harrington took three for 18 in the final as Littleborough, who defeated Norden by seven wickets earlier in the day, were restricted to 158 for six.

Harrington added an unbeaten 30, while at the other end Snyman launched into seven sixes and six fours as the lads from Turf Pit Lane past the winning post with 13 balls to spare.
