HEYSIDE Juniors pulled off the shock of the season in the under-15s division of the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League when they won 3-1 at leaders Littleborough.

The Hare Hill outfit were a goal to the good at the break and their 100 per cent record seemed safe until Tom Devenport, Dale Taylor and Ryan Atkin struck goals for Heyside.

A superb defensive effort secured the surprise but thoroughly deserved victory.

Goals from Ross Morrison (two), Danny Barnes, Max Tolley, Kareem James and Thomas Ireland earned the under-13s a 6-3 success over Copperpot.

CHADDY End FC under-12s had Tom Maloney, Charlie Burton, Luke Hadfield, Sam Haran and Ryan Mason on the mark in a 5-0 defeat of Kingsway.

Matty Singleton scored four times for the under-14s, who overcame Heyside Juniors 6-2.

Jake Green and Joe Mallia got the other goals, while Anthony Moores and Jack Warburton replied for Heyside.

Chaddy End under-15s were involved in a double-header against Red Star, triumphing 5-0 and 8-1.

North Bury League

A QUICKFIRE start set Chaddy Hoppers Red under-13s on their way to a 5-2 success over Rossendale United in the North Bury Junior League.

Blaine Biggs, with a fine 25-yard drive, and Joshua Brierley struck in the opening 15 minutes.

United pulled a goal back before half-time, but Hoppers were soon back in the ascendancy thanks to Stephen Wharmby, Alex Harrison (penalty) and Biggs again. United scored their second late on.

Elliot Moss scored on his debut as under-12s Blue were beaten 5-2 by second-in-the-table Walshaw Sports.

Dan Ratcliff got the other goal for Hoppers, who created plenty of chances but were undone by defensive errors.

Head over heels with title joy

OLDHAM Schools under-14s have been crowned Greater Manchester Schools’ League champions — but they had to endure a tense finale against title rivals Bury.

The talented youngsters required a point from their last league game of the season to take top honours.

And, thanks to a nail-biting 2-2 draw, it was Paul Ogden’s side who were celebrating at the Lancaster Club.

It was a closely-fought contest between two evenly-balanced sides, but Bury needed to win to snatch the crown from under their hosts’ noses.

However, it was Oldham who broke the deadlock 10 minutes after half-time through Joe Cooper, of Saddleworth.

The visitors came back strongly and they drew level through Tommy Toth.

But the lead was shortlived as Oldham regained their narrow advantage courtesy of a Carlton McIntosh (South Chadderton) strike.

Bury, with nothing to lose, poured forward and were rewarded when Sam Smith restored parity with eight minutes to go.

But Oldham stood firm to claim the all-important point.

They are now setting their sights on completing the Greater Manchester Schools’ League double.

Already through to the last four of the Talbot Cup, they book their place in the final by beating home side Broughton on Saturday (kick-off 10.30am).

Oldham under-15s are also in action this weekend.

They take on Wigan in a Greater Manchester Schools’ League game at the Lancaster Club (10.30am).

THE Rochdale and Oldham Youth Football League are looking for teams to bolster two of next season’s age-groups.

There are vacancies at under-12s and under-14s (2009/10 age-groups) and teams interested should contact chairman Bridget Meehan on 07736887218 or email ROYFL@hotmail.co.uk

The under-16s lost 2-1 to title-chasing Failsworth Rangers in a keenly-contested game. Olly Harris scored for 3D.

BROADWAY Celtic Juniors under-15s maintained their unbeaten record with a 4-0 win over a much-improved Oldham Town outfit.

James Bowling broke the deadlock in the second half, before a hat-trick from Mahidul Islam sealed victory.

CHADDERTON Juniors under-15s returned to the top of the table after posting a 5-2 success against a resurgent Tintwistle Villa team, who had won five of their previous seven games.

Defender Gary McClusky opened the scoring, before strike partners Mike Taylor and Anthony Curran got in on the act.

Captain Jack Beasley’s 25-yard screamer made it 4-0, while Taylor scored his second of the game after Villa had staged a recovery.

BRADLEY Legg (two), Elliot Green, Jordan Slattery (two) and own goal made up the tally as Heyside Juniors under-11s defeated AFC Oldham 6-2.

But Heyside JFC under-11s were beaten 2-1 by Denton Town — Aiden Pass scored the consolation — while a goal from Tom Robinson was in vain as Heyside Juniors under-12s lost 3-1 to Hollinwood.

Perfect 10 for red-hot Rockettes

UPPERMILL Rockettes under-16s recorded an emphatic 10-1 victory over Droylsden in the Oldham Girls League.

Three goals to the good at the break — Lucy Hurst (two) and Becki Hall were on target — the girls put the game beyond their opponents’ reach with a fine second-half show.

The excellent Hurst took her tally to four, Kim Buckley hit a hat-trick, Hall got another and captain Ellie Stanford also scored.

Rockettes under-13s ran riot against Chadderton Park.

Spearheaded by Ellen Bergin’s six goals, they recorded a comprehensive 13-0 win. Jayme Butler-Jones (four), Megan Ashton (two) and Kirsty Ashworth also scored.

OLDHAM Athletic Girls under-11s, who only had six players, conceded two late goals as they went down 4-3 to Uppermill Rockettes. Chloe Pickering, Abbie O’Brien and Hayley Pickering scored for Athletic.

The under-12s, meanwhile, completed their league campaign on a high with a 3-1 win over champions Droylsden. Abby Bennett, Alys Wild and Ashleigh Spragg got the all-important goals.

Chloe Austen and Bathany Marland scored for Athletic under-13s, who defeated Denton Town 2-1.

The under-16s refused to throw in the towel against table-toppers R.O.C.S FC.

Two goals adrift at half-time, they halved the deficit through Ashleigh Ball but, despite pilling on the pressure, their opponents went on to clinch a 3-1 win.

Faye Hardicre (two) and Sarah Ryan were on the mark for R.O.C.S.

LUCY Shaylor’s treble, plus a Jess Bromley effort, clinched a 4-2 success for Heyside Angels Clarets over club colleagues Heyside Angels, for whom Rachel McHugh and Gemma Jacobs replied.
