Historic Chadderton pub ‘invaded’ by Japanese Knotweed

Date published: 16 August 2024

A destructive plant species has complicated plans to turn the site of a 140-year-old pub into a convenience store.

Developers Thistlewood Properties have asked the council for permission for an invasive weed management plan to remove Japanese Knotweed from the land around Owd Tatts in Butler Green, Chadderton.

The pub, that has become a ‘fly tipping hotspot’ since its closure in 2018, is due to be demolished once the plants have been removed and treated.
