A CHADDERTON man who was injured in a drive-by shooting has been ordered to pay £320,000 from the proceeds of his drugs crimes.

Thirty wraps of heroin were found in the footwell of Mohammed Jahangir Bashir’s Vauxhall Vectra after he was shot in the arm in King Road, Ashton, in January 2007.

A number of wraps of cocaine were also found on the front passenger seat.

Another 50 wraps of heroin and 74 of crack cocaine were discovered in the gearbox of a hired Peugeot he drove to Ashton police station seven months later. He was there to view an identity parade in connection with the shooting

Bashir (36), of Boundary Park Road, Chadderton, was then charged with possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to supply.

He was jailed for nine years last May.

A proceeds of crime hearing at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square, on Friday ordered him to pay £320,000.

David Gwilliam from the financial investigation team at Ashton said: “This result shows our investigations don’t stop once a defendant has been sentenced.

“Greater Manchester Police is committed to tackling the problem of drugs and we will fully use the powers available to us to seize property and money from offenders.

“Proceeds of crime hearings also serve as a way to help prevent future criminal activity through the confiscation of assets.”

No one has been charged in connection with the shooting.
