TJ Hughes returns to Oldham - in same store

WELCOME back . . . Mike Flanagan outside TJ Hughes in the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre
TJ HUGHES is coming back in Oldham almost four years after closing its doors.
The popular retailer will reopen in its original store in Spindles Town Square shopping centre.
Work to prepare the store started yesterday, with a reopening planned for later in the year.
The two-storey store will return pretty much as before, with fashion, beauty and toiletries, electricals, home furnishings and toys on sale, plus a cafe.
Since the store closed in August 2011 with the loss of 82 jobs, Oldhamers have been keen for it to return. Rumours of its return have been rife over several months.
There have been concerns that the new Prince’s Gate development at Mumps would take trade away from the town centre, but shopping centre bosses say TJ Hughes is one of several lettings they hope for in the next few months.
Mike Flanagan, centre manager, added: “This is great news for us, knowing how popular the store was when it traded here in the past.”
