Bee Network bus and Metrolink tram tickets are in for a shake-up from March as Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) bosses confirmed the launch of new ‘multi-modal’ passes.
The new tickets will allow passengers to buy a ticket for both tram and bus travel on a monthly or annual basis.
They could cost as little as £2.75 per day.
Passengers will be able to spread the cost of annual multi-modal tickets, which cost at least £1,000, by purchasing it through a Credit Union and making repayments weekly or monthly.
The new passes will be available from March 23 - the same day as the Bee Network’s ‘tap-in, tap out’ system launches.
That will allow passengers to scan a bank card or phone on a Metrolink platform or on-board a Bee Network bus, and be charged the lowest fare at the end of the day.
They follow the recent introduction of the ‘hopper’ bus ticket, which allows passengers to catch as many buses as they like within an hour of paying their fare.
It’s all been done to simplify public transit usage, according to transport commissioner for Greater Manchester, Vernon Everitt.
He said: “These are the latest steps in a continuous programme of work to deliver better and more joined up public transport through the Bee Network for the people and businesses of Greater Manchester.
“These new fares and simple ‘tap and go’ payment with daily and weekly fare caps are making public transport more convenient and affordable and are core to our aim of encouraging more people to use our services.”
