CHRISTMAS cheer filled Royton last night at the switch-on of the town’s seasonal lights.
Hundreds braved the chilly night to watch as the switch was flipped at Royton Town Hall. Schoolchildren were given the honour of unveiling the lights after winning a colouring competition.
Dozens of small children eagerly waited to see Santa.
The Royton Christmas Lights Association, which has organised the event for over a decade, said the switch-on has become increasingly popular.
The lights are paid for by Royton councillors from their annual budget, while money for the gifts was raised through a raffle.
The Royton Christmas Lights Association is a small group headed by founder members Howard and Jean Moores and assisted by Royton town hall staff and Royton councillors.
