Tom’s cutting it in politics... and for charity
Date published: 03 October 2014
CROMPTON House pupil Tom Hulme had a close shave when his shoulder-length hair was lopped off for charity.
Students packed into the school hall to see the 15 year old’s dramatic makeover - which has so far raised more than £1,100 for the Christie hospital in Manchester.
Tom, a member of the Oldham East and Saddleworth Conservative Party, also had plenty of political support. Tories who sponsored him included education secretary Nicky Morgan, former Conservative MP Edwina Currie, Employment Minister Esther McVey and Culture Secretary Sajid Javid. Also on the list are Conservative North-West MEPs Jacqueline Foster and Sajjad Karim.
Tom cut it on the other side of the political divide too, with sponsorship from local Labour MP Debbie Abrahams.
Tom had been growing his hair for six years: “I wasn’t bothered about losing it at all; I’ll see how it grows before choosing a new style.”
