From hundreds of nominations, an independent judging panel selected three finalists in the various categories.
Last year’s event coincided with the build-up to the London Olympic Games, where Shaw’s Nicola White received a bronze medal as part of the Great Britain women’s hockey team. Nicola will be present tonight.
Young Team GB swimmer Jessica Lloyd, from Diggle, reached the final of the 4x100m relay, while Joe O’Regan was part of GB’s water polo team.
Ben Procter represented GB with distinction in the Paralympics by qualifying for the 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle finals at the Paralympics.
Away from the Olympics Rugby League star, Waterhead’s Kevin Sinfield, is lending his support to tonight’s spectacle.
The Leeds Rhinos captain won his sixth Super League Grand Final title in nine years last season, and this autumn will lead England’s pursuit of the Rugby League World Cup.
White and Sinfield will be on opposing sides in a special “Question of Sport” on stage.
Awaiting most of the winners is a place at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards, held later in the year.
Let’s make it a night to remember.
