Cameras hope to cut speeding

ACTION on speeding . . . Councillor Diane Williamson
TWO speed traps could be placed along Oldham Road (B6194) to alleviate long-running problems for residents.
Crompton councillor, Diane Williamson, began her campaign after residents complained of the dangers faced on the bend at Birshaw Close between St Joseph’s School and Shawside Nursing Home, Shaw.
She has called for road narrowing work to slow traffic and alleviate problems for residents in the area down to Cowlishaw Lane.
The Casualty Reduction Partnership and Oldham Council are now reviewing the need for cameras.
“In all fairness I was thinking perhaps having one of those mirrors on a pole opposite Birshaw Close,” Councillor Williamson said.
“I’ll be delighted if this scheme goes ahead.”
