GCSE RESULTS 2009
FIVE whizzkids from Failsworth School are heading for bright futures after scooping top GCSE results.
An ecstatic Sophie Rigney is cock-a-hoop after sailing home with 10 A*s, one A and a B. She said: “I feel amazing. This is exactly what I was hoping for.
“Don’t believe the detractors. I was probably working for five to six hours each night to get these results. I put my entire social life on hold.”
Sophie will now study A levels in chemistry, biology, English language and history at Oldham Sixth-Form College.
A creative future beckons for Nicholas Steele (16), of Propps Hall Road, who has set his sights on a career as an architect once he has studied A levels in fine art, creative art, maths and ancient history at Oldham Sixth-Form College.
Nicholas, who gained four A*s, three As and four Bs, said: “I’m really pleased with my results.
“There has been a lot of staying up to the early hours, but it has all been worth it in the end.”
Science-lover Ryan Murphy is looking forward to a new challenge at Oldham Sixth-Form college after scooping seven A*s and four As.
The 16-year old, of Waterfield Way, said: “I was pretty overwhelmed when I opened my results.”
Ryan is now planning to study for A levels in maths, further maths, computing, electronics and physics.
Charlotte Wilkinson (16) was lost for words when she opened her results to see four A*s, three As and four Bs.
The high-flier, from Sycamore Grove, said: “I’m going to study chemistry, biology, physics and maths at Oldham Sixth-Form and hopefully will become a doctor or physicist.”
Chloe Dineley (16), who bagged four A*s and nine As, said: “I was ecstatic with my results because I felt really sick before I opened them. I had to work so hard for this, it has been a very stressful experience, but it all worked out in the end.”
Chloe is now heading for Oldham Sixth-Form College, where she will study A levels in maths, further maths, biology, chemistry and history.
Head teacher David Johnson heaped praise on his students after another first rate set of results, which saw pupils improve on the best ever results achieved by Failsworth.
He said: “The class of 2009 gained outstanding results this year, with 45 per cent of students gaining five A*s to C, including Maths and English. This has exceeded the national expectations for this year group.
“No student left Failsworth this year without gaining a good qualification. These results reflect upon the hard work of all our students, the dedication of our staff and also the great support given by or parents. Many, many congratulations to our students.”
