TALENTED . . . Musician Emily Crichton with her oboe
A TALENTED young musician is celebrating after winning a prestigious music award.
Oboe player Emily Crichton, from Failsworth, was named winner at the Lions Club Musical Competition at Witton Park Academy in Blackburn.
The 18-year-old, who studied A-Levels at the Blue Coat School Sixth Form, won the Years 7 to 13 category and has now been invited to perform at the Lions Clubs' Convention in Kendal next March.
It follows her being runner-up in the Uppermill Young Musicians competition last month and performing with the Halle Youth Wind Quintet at the Didsbury Art Festival in June in support of Maggie's Manchester.
Emily is a member of Oldham Music Service and performs in several groups including the Youth Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Swing Band (in which she plays alto sax and clarinet) and sings in the Youth Choir.
Emily has also studied at Junior Royal Northern College of Music on a Saturday for two years and has been offered a place at Magdalen College, Oxford to read music in September.
