Oldham drew Featherstone Rovers at home in the semi-final of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup, in their bid to play at Wembley for the first time in their history.
And then, they went out and beat the same Rovers side 30-28 in a thriller to keep hold of second place in the Championship.
Rovers scored six tries to Oldham's five, but Josh Drinkwater's five goals won the day for Oldham, who made it four wins in a row and who play Rovers at Boundary Park again in the 1895 cup semi-final on the weekend of May 17 and 18.
Featherstone's French international prop Gadwin Springer was sent off near the end for a challenge on George Hirst, while Rovers missed five kicks at goal, including a late touchline conversion by Ben Reynolds and a penalty from deep inside his own half by Ryan Hampshire in the dying seconds.
