Dixon scored winning try with broken arm

Oldham head coach Sean Long has confirmed that winger Kieran Dixon scored the match-winning try at Sheffield on Sunday with a broken arm and will now undergo surgery that will keep him out for 8-10 weeks. 

Dixon's heroics earned Roughyeds a valuable Betfred Championship win at the Eagles, as he chased down Josh Drinkwater's long kick to touch down. 

But the former Hull KR man was in visible agony as he planted the ball over the line, and it has now been revealed that the injury happened earlier in the second half, with Dixon playing on.

The 32-year old will have surgery next week, with Long confirming the news to Roughyeds TV.

The head coach said: "He played the last 15 minutes with a broken arm and got through his work.

"He was going to come off but we had no subs so he battled through and scored the winning try.

"There wasn't much celebration because his arm was broken but we have got him in for an operation and he will probably be out for eight weeks. 

"It's a massive setback, especially with the injuries we have got in the outside backs as we were light anyway.

"It is a bitter blow for us and for Kieran as I thought he was outstanding at the weekend."

Long has also confirmed that fellow winger Nathan Lowe suffered an injury at Sheffield, with the Wigan teenager now facing a spell out of the game with a shoulder tear.
