Latics stalemate at high-flying rivals Barnet

Date published: 08 November 2024

Latics returned from the capital having earned a gritty goalless draw at fellow National League high-fliers Barnet.

The third-placed Bees went closest in the 83rd minute when Anthony Hartigan struck the bar.

Moments later, Rhys Browne saw his shot kept out by a fine save from Latics goalkeeper Mathew Hudson, who had done well in the first half to deny Bailey Hobson.

Dean Brennan’s men also had a Ben Coker effort disallowed for offside with around 20 minutes to go as they failed to make a breakthrough against an Latics outfit who stay fifth in the table.

Latics boss Micky Mellon said: "We picked a team to try and win the game, the very least that you want to do is come away with something; get a clean sheet and come away with something.

"We'll take the positives out of that."

Latics' next fixture is on Saturday when they host Tamworth.
