Scholes blames leadership at Oldham for resigning

The shock announcement of the former Manchester United midfielder’s resignation came on Thursday afternoon, hours before Latics are due to host Tranmere Rovers in League Two on Saturday (16th March).

It brings to an end his 31-day tenure at the helm of the club he supported as a boy alongside his father before his career as a footballer took off.

In a statement the 44-year old said: “It is with great regret I have decided to leave with immediate effect.”

“I hope to, at the very least, see out my initial term of 18-months as the manager.”

“The fans, players, my friends and family all knew how proud and excited I was to take this role. In the short period since I took on the role it unfortunately became clear I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role.”

Scholes’ resignation will be seen as a massive blow to the club and owner Abdallah Lemsagam, who, Revolution News understands, was prepared to back the former England international, despite only claiming one win in his first and only seven games in charge.
