TEAM spirit . . . the Derker Street Scene crew.
A DEDICATED team which strives to keep the streets of Derker litter free has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award.
The Derker Street Scene Team regularly sweeps roads and alleyways, empties litter bins and picks up rubbish.
Once a week, team members, who are based in Waterhead, also visit areas of Derker affected by the Housing Market Renewal programme to clear up any fly-tipping or dangerous debris.
Street Scene’s Oldham East area manager Paul Griffiths said: “We have our regular duties but if we get a call about any particular incidents we’ll go out and sort it, no problem. We have a good relationship with local residents and I think they respect what we do because they see us out on the streets doing our job. We all enjoy our jobs and I think that shows in the work we do.
“It is fantastic to be nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award as it’s nice to be appreciated for the work you do.”
The team wase nominated by residents group Derker Wardens whose members monitor the area to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Spokesperson Angela Cosgrove said: “Our members survey the streets of Derker for litter every month.
“If we find anything, we tell the Street Scene team and they are there as soon as possible to clean it up.
“The lads are really active in the community and solve problems as fast as they can.
“They have given us new litter bins and always have a solution to our queries to help keep Derker clean and tidy. We are in constant contact with the team and they really do help boost community spirit. They go far beyond what is expected.”
