Talented GP really cares

A POPULAR GP who has impressed his patients with his knowledge, skill and compassion, has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award.

Dr Peter Walsh, who has practised at Crompton Health Centre for more than 10 years, was nominated by one of his patients — Lindsay Heneghan, from Royton.

Highlighting Dr Walsh’s brilliant memory, she recalled how he remembered her husband’s name — when meeting him for only the second time, three years apart.

Mrs Heneghan said: “Dr Walsh works harder than most. He listens to what you don’t say as much as what you do. He shows a fantastic insight, makes you feel important and really cares.

“He has a knack of asking the right questions and remembering without notes. He really understands. He knows exactly what he’s talking about and deals with it.”

The modest 40-year-old GP, from Greenfield, said: “It’s really nice people think so highly of me. It does make you proud of your work and gives you a sense of achievement and that what you’re doing is worthwhile.”

Aside from his excellent bedside manner, Dr Walsh also has musical talents — performing his own songs in his spare time to take away the stresses of work.

The singer/songwriter can play the guitar, harmonica and piano.

He is beginning to make his mark on the local music scene, having performed at Manchester nightspots The Green Room and Night and Day Cafe.
