The Lyceum Theatre in Oldham
This year, Lyceum Theatre Oldham celebrates an incredible 90 years of quality amateur theatre for the people of the North with a season full of old favourites and exciting debuts.
The season opens from September 21 to 29 with a classic spoof comedy.
‘Sunset’ by Jerome K Jerome was the first play to be performed by the Lyceum Players 90 years ago, and its coupling with Tom Stoppard’s one-act short The Real Inspector promises a night of fun and laughter.
For a more gentle comedy, Gérald Sibleyras’s ‘Heroes’ sees three war veterans at the end of their lives plotting to escape from the confines of their nursing home.
Translated by Tom Stoppard from its original French, the play runs from November 23 to December 1.
The theatre will welcome 2019 with performances of Phil Olson’s ‘Mom’s Gift’ from February 1 to February 9.
In this show, a ghostly encounter between spirit Mom and her daughter finds the two trying to figure out what good deed Mom must perform in order to gain her wings.
Look out for the unexpected twist giving this American play a whole new perspective.
Prolific playwright Colin Smith’s ‘Play’ will be gracing the stage from April 5 to 13, bringing together themes of celebration, commemoration of WW1 and the beginnings of the Lyceum itself.
This world premiere follows the critical success of PlotFest, Lyceum Theatre Oldham’s playwriting competition.
The season will be brought to a close with Alan Ayckboun’s classic ‘The Time of My Life’.
The play, to be shown from June 7 to 15, relays the tale of a family birthday party which descends into chaos as a toast to ‘happy times’ turns prophetically and hilariously wrong.
Season tickets are on sale from August 13 for only £8 per ticket, saving £1 each on full price seats.
Tickets for individual productions go on sale on August 27.
