Oldham RU hammered at Tyldesley

Oldham RUFC made the trip to Tyldesley on Saturday with eight changes to the team that had won at home two weeks previously.

Tyldesley, who are sat fourth in the league having only lost twice so far this season in league fixtures, were rampant and eventually won 78-0.

It is fair to say it was a day for Oldham to forget, travelling only with 17 players due to unavailability and a late withdrawal on Saturday morning it was always going to be a hard enough task if Oldham had a full rank of first choice players.

Oldham held Tyldesley for the first 15 minutes of the game, trading blows up front until the first try was scored by the home team.

What then followed was Tyldesley jumping on Oldham mistakes and Oldham following a mistake or infringement with another one.

Tyldesley, whose set piece was sound, carried well and then were clinical with the ball in hand.

At 28 -0 at half time there was still a chance for Oldham to get a foothold on the game through controlling their own possession instead of turning it over at every opportunity.

The second half ended up being a rout and Tyldesley piled on the points as Oldham lost two players to yellow cards and heads went down.

The only pleasing point of the afternoon was the return of Sean Carter from long term injury for his first appearance of the season.

Oldham are now in an uphill battle to stave off relegation and with 10th-placed Liverpool Collegiate 11 points in front of them, they will need several victories to jump out of the relegation zone.

With an upcoming trip to now fourth-placed Warrington next week the hard work continues for the Manor Park outfit.
