Girls are getting into golf at Saddleworth

The girls' session is under way on the excellent practice ground at Saddleworth
Saddleworth Golf Club have launched their ‘Get into Golf for Girls’ programme, and pro Andrew Earlam has been delighted with the response so far.
Andrew said: “We had 11 girls turn up for the session and it was fantastic with some great ability shining through!

“We are also offering sessions for boys and ladies.”
There has been plenty of action on course at Saddleworth with a singles Stableford seeing the divisions topped by Lee Blainey 40, Will Potts 40 and Bill Thornton 41.
Saddleworth Ladies played for the Dail Mail Foursomes qualifier and Jo Jacombs and Tracey Rowbotham won a cpo from Linda Kenworthy and Jean Barnes and Jane Wild and Kath Oldham.
The first round of the Saddleworth Vice Captain’s competition saw Dave Marshall set the early pace with 67, one less than Simon Halliwell, Dave Fox, Ben Pullen, Michael Farrimond, Denis Lamb, Mark Orme and Paul Rowbotham.
A Pro’s BB Stableford had Greg Burgess and Ian Bolton on top with 48, from Lee Blainey and Nick Kerin 46 and Terry Wash and Mark Dunning 44.
Crompton and Royton’s men played 36 holes for the ‘major’ Holden Cup, and in round one John Weldon and Mark Davies set a hot pace with 63.
In round two Neil Barnes was on his own with 63 from Scott McBride 66.
The winner of the coveted trophy was John Weldon 129 from Scott McBride 130 and Mark Barrett and Mark Davies, both 131.
C and R ladies played round two of the Lady Captain’s prize and a cpo on 68 went in favour of Linda Haughton from Denise Chambers.
