Just 18 months after joining the professional ranks, Shaw boxer Tom Rafferty has built a solid reputation as a tough and talented fighter with decisive wins in all seven of his bouts so far, including his recent victory over Frane Radnic in Manchester.
"This was my second stoppage," said Rafferty, who is 25.
"I floored Radnic with a powerful left hook in the third round.
"He was a tough experienced opponent so as planned I worked to control him, boxing on the back foot then coming forward quickly.
"That’s my style.
"Fans find me exciting as I’m improving constantly learning to stay calm and ensure that opponents never know what’s coming."
Rafferty began boxing at 11, winning 20 out of 25 amateur bouts.
"As I matured I realised that I was really good at boxing and I fell in love with it," he added.
"Success is built on dedication and I want to be the best boxer. I love the challenge."
Training at ‘The Finest Boxing Gym’, Rafferty credits manager Pat Barrett and coaches Steve Maylett and Joe Eko for his success so far.
"I know that I’m in the best place to make further progress and fulfil my ambition of winning British titles and maybe more," added Rafferty.
"I’m lucky as I can concentrate on boxing full time thanks to generous sponsorship from Combro Construction and Rhodian Wealth Management, for which I am so very grateful.
"Boxing teaches discipline and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
"I aim to be a good role model as a boxer and particularly for my son, who’s just had his first birthday.
"The little guy’s got a smile that melts my heart.
"He’s just the happiest, cutest small person.
"I hope that in time he will be proud of me."
Rafferty’s ambition is to climb the super middleweight ranks with longer, more demanding fights.
He said: "I’ll fight whoever my team choose.
"Opponents should expect to be knocked out in a tough night’s work."
